  • Essay / Human Environmental Hazards - 865

Physical hazards affect populations around the world, regardless of wealth, geographic location, or other factors that tend to differentiate people and cultures from one another. Physical hazards in the environment are natural events and disasters that can threaten physical safety. Hurricanes, volcanic eruptions, tornadoes, earthquakes, floods, and landslides are all types of physical hazards that can have devastating effects on humanity (Library Index, Natural Hazard, 2011). These physical hazards have primary and secondary effects. Primary effects result from the event or disaster itself. For example, floodwaters damage homes and buildings, or the collapse of structures due to an earthquake, hurricane, landslide, or sinkhole. Side effects occur because a primary effect caused them. An example of a side effect is a power outage or fire started due to an earthquake. Although we cannot predict the precise location or magnitude of a physical hazard, some of its consequences can be significantly reduced through strategies such as building design, better land management and regulation, and education. on how we can better use our land. Biological hazards are microorganisms such as viruses, bacteria, fungi, microscopic worms, parasites or other pathogens. These harmful microorganisms are described as a natural substance that can be harmful to humans and cause disease. These dangerous biological agents can enter the body through different routes. They are inhaled, ingested or absorbed, with most biological agents being inhaled (What is a Biohazard, 2011). Once inside the body, these infectious agents can multiply rapidly and can be ...... middle of paper ...... also associated with high sexual activity. Overeating can lead to serious medical problems, endanger your overall health, and subject the human body to disease. (Patton, KT and Thibodeau, G., A. 2010).
