    Do beauty pageants do more harm than good to children? The lights are all on you, the makeup, the hair and the extravagant dresses. Your blood pumps with adrenaline; you feel nervous, but excited. All eyes are on you; the pretty girl strutting across the stage in ostentatious costumes that sparkle when caught by the light. Many people have witnessed a beauty pageant, whether on television or on stage. Few people deny the adorableness of young children performing their talents in front of crowds. Beauty pageants have existed since the 1920s, creating a trend in American society, but the history of beauty pageants began in Troy and ancient China, where contestants were sculptors, actors, poets, philosophers and public speakers, etc. (Children and beauty). Pageants) Beauty pageants consist of many age groups ranging from newborns to around twenty years old. Girls aged three to thirteen should not participate in beauty pageants. In many cases, these children become disturbed adults who cannot adjust to the normalcy of life around them. These children also crave to be the center of attention and when they do not receive the desired attention, they begin to develop signs of worthlessness, depression and loneliness. In many cases, it takes serious forms leading to suicide and personality disorders. These children may also not be able to form strong relational bonds, which can lead to the breakdown of families and friendships. In some cases, these children develop eating disorders. This not only takes away their primary innocence but also makes them susceptible to developing several mental and emotional imbalances in the life to come.
