Essay / Baroque music during the Baroque period from 1600 to 1750
Baroque was a period from 1600 to 1750. During this period, people of different classes and different religions were fighting for interests, then the Baroque style was created. "Baroque" - this word has various explanations. One of the explanations comes from Spain – “Barroco”, it means imperfect pearl. One comes from an Italian – Charles de Brosses. He said barroco came from “Logic”, it means the description of Syllogism. At this time, Baroque architecture was synonymous with sumptuousness and exaggeration. They believed that music was a communication tool for people to feel what they felt. Basso continuo, bass ostinato, middle concertato, improvisation and counterpoint belonged to the Baroque era. The famous play was Canon, written by Johann Pachelbel. Canon is not a part name, it's a shape style. He used basso continuo and ground bass to create this piece. The harpsichord was the important instrument of this period. It can be a solo instrument or an accompaniment. Composers of this era added more dressing notes to make the music more luxurious. A strong rhythm, a short and moving melody were the representative style of this period. Polyphony was still important. At the same time, tonic music is developing very well. Usually the music was played for nobles and performed in a drawing room or music hall. Anyone can buy tickets, but only nobles do so. Choir music played in the church, everyone can be there to watch and listen. At that time, contrasting effects were a musical style. Big sounds suddenly turn into small sounds. It normally appeared in a concerto grosso. The Concerto grosso is the model before the concerto. The proportion of orchestra was not fully developed until the classical era. George Friedrich Handel was born on February 23, 1685. He was an English composer as he was born in Germany but moved to London until his death.
