When it comes to the term “Tim Hortons,” what comes to mind for the average person may have a lot to do with the generation in which you have grown up. If you grew up born in the 1960s and were a huge hockey fan, you would probably fit the name Tim Horton as the legendary defenseman who led the Toronto Maple Leafs to four Stanley Cups. You can even match the name to the exotic De Tomaso Pantera, which was offered to Horton as a one-year signing bonus by the Buffalo Sabres, in which Horton later died in a high-speed accident . If you weren't born and raised during this era, the name Tim Horton probably brings to mind the popular Canadian brand of Tim Horton's coffee and donuts. Even though Horton didn't have the chance to see his company grow to the multi-billion dollar business it is today, his name still resonates across the country and is an important part of everyone's day. Canadians. Looking at a brief history of how the Tim Hortons franchise became what it is today, Tim Hortons opened its first restaurant in 1964 in Hamilton, Ontario. Tim Hortons aimed to sell high quality, always fresh products with great value and excellent service. This first store started with only coffee and two types of donuts, Apple Fritter and Dutchie. In 1967, Tim Horton joined with Ron Joyce to become full partners in the new company. After Horton's tragic death in 1974, his wife sold her husband's share of the business, which now had 30 restaurants, to co-owner Ron Joyce for $1 million. She quickly regretted her decision and later tried to reverse it, but was unsuccessful.
