Questions:1. What social issues are highlighted in the book that led Ashley and her brother (Luke) to be removed from her family? What obstacles did they face, internally and externally, that led to their children’s long and difficult journey through the foster care system? The main reason they were removed from the family was because his mother was on drugs. For example, she would cook drugs in the kitchen without paying any attention to Ashley. The mother had a boyfriend, named Dusty, who also fought with her. I remember he hit her and that's why Tommy was born prematurely. One night, Ashley was outside alone because no one was watching her, so the neighbors watched her until her mother came home. Once, Dusty was riding in a car that had no license plates and he did not have a valid driver's license. Some of the internal barriers were that Ashley and Luke were emotionally, verbally, and mentally destroyed. Since the mother always said to Ashley: “Sun, not today, but soon”, like when they would get together as a family. Above all, she played with their heads like when she came back to get them. The more they saw of the mother, the more they hoped that being a family again would bring them down. The mother always tried to bring gifts to show her love to the children, but it was not enough. She continued to use drugs, which made the process of seeing her children to be with her again impossible. For example, they feared being stuck in the foster care system for a long time. The exterior barriers were constantly moving from one foster home to another, several times during the same period. When Ashley and Luke lived with the Mosses, middle of paper ...... e I knew how I felt when I was younger and no one helped me. This decision was made when I was in 9th or 10th grade, because I see a lot of children hurt by different actions. It made me realize that I wanted to help children in all kinds of ways. Because children always need the first aid they deserve. If there were more people trying to help kids today, I think they might be in a better situation. For my part, I had no one to talk to about what was happening in my house until I was later in my teens. If it took me this long, what will it be like for someone who has had a worse life than me? Whatever happens, I think that by helping children, I will feel like I have accomplished something in my life. This is why I will continue to obtain my Master's degree and progress to help children who need it..
