  • Essay / Weapons of Mass Destruction - 663

Weapons of Mass DestructionWeapons of mass destruction are the most powerful weapons ever created. Weapons of mass destruction are chemical, biological or radioactive weapons capable of causing widespread annihilation. But under U.S. law, it also fits many other weapons that fall under an extremely broad description of weapons. Nuclear weapons constitute a major crisis in today's world, as shown by the Cold War which can cause an extremely rapid rise in tensions and provoke a world war again, or even end all wars by exterminating a large majority of the human race. Nuclear weapons can cause gigantic casualties on a scale never before seen and have the potential to dramatically affect the course of the human race, posing an enormous threat unique to the last sixty-six years. While a large majority of the world is against nuclear weapons of mass destruction, a small minority supports them. One of the reasons a person or country may support them is because they feel safer with them. But a country with weapons of mass destruction (WMD) can be considered a threat. Some would even say that they are a necessary deterrent to prevent other countries from attacking them. But countries can only be pushed so far that a mistake is made and, in the case of nuclear weapons, this could cause large-scale devastation and retaliation. These are the main reasons why some support weapons of mass destruction, but simply removing weapons of mass destruction can avoid most of the problems that come with them. Weapons of mass destruction cause many high stress problems between countries. An example of an extremely high stress situation occurred shortly after World War II, the Cold War. After the use of the atomic bomb in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Russia began to research and mass produce nuclear weapons which pushed the human race to the brink of destruction. And other weapons of mass destruction have been repeatedly used in violation of international law and many war atrocities have been committed with the use of biological weapons and chemical agents. Weapons of mass destruction can and will lead to the downfall of the human race if this problem is not quickly addressed in one way or another. “I don’t know with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones.” (Albert Einstein) This problem was known years ago with the invention of modern weapons. Today's world is a fragile structure of electronic networks that can be destroyed in one fell swoop and cause a world war. Everyone needs to come together on this issue before this wave happens. This is why weapons of this nature must be dismantled and taken care of quickly and forever..
