Essay / Choose the Right College - 642
According to a study in California, "about 70 percent of students often or always feel stressed about their schoolwork, and 56 percent report often or always worrying about things like grades, tests. , and college acceptance” (Carter). Determining the ideal university has never been an easy step, but we may have to face it at some point in our lives. High school students are all stressing about getting high grades and getting into top universities. However, choosing the right university should not be based on the popularity of schools or academic reasons. As Linda Frum's essay "How to Choose the Right College" points out, postsecondary schools should be considered based on their location, course availability, and environment. Location is a major factor in choosing the right university. We have to decide whether we want to live at home or move into a residence. University of Toronto Scarborough, Ryerson or York? To make the decision, I ask myself: “Am I ready to move?” Do I want to be independent already? I like the idea of living at home rather than in residences. So my choice is to go to a university closer to home. However, my parents want me to leave home and experience different environments, giving me the opportunity to become an independent person. Others may want to live in residences away from home, at universities like Waterloo, Western, Queens, etc. As Frum pointed out, “leaving not only builds character; it sharpens your mind by placing you among people who talk funny, believe radically different things, hate your province, eat disgusting food, and yet are still your countrymen” (Frum, 308)... middle of paper. .....Before. As Frum's mentioned in his essay: "Do I want to be surrounded by people who love to read and talk about what?" We need to ask ourselves: are we the kind of people who like to spend time studying and being antisocial, or are we one of those party people types who are sociable? Additionally, we want an environment that is also safe to live in. An example would be York. We've heard tons of cases about York. This may make us not want to go to that university, after hearing about the news on a certain campus. Choosing the right university is not as simple as we think; It’s distressing and extremely stressful. Selecting the right university should not only be based on popularity or academically, but also on location, course availability and environment. They are equally important in determining the right university.
