In recent years, the subject of crime has become an increasingly important theme in political, academic and public debates. In particular, the media today focuses more than ever on the victims. Through media representations of the “ideal victim,” this essay will then show how the media is capable of constructing and reaffirming pre-existing traditional ideologies in the public domain. Indeed, this mission will critically evaluate the concept of the “ideal victim” and show how the media used it to describe the crime.
