Essay / The environmentally conscious Christian - 1273
When God created the world, he created everything. Genesis 1 gives all mankind the wonderful account of His creation. God created the sky, the sun, the moon and the stars. God also created the earth, the waters of the oceans and the streams. God also created animals to inhabit the earth, sky, and waters. Furthermore, He created the plants that grow on the earth He created. God's supreme creation was the creation of man. God's creation of man came with great responsibilities. More specifically, He made man responsible for caring for all that He had created. Genesis 2:15 says, “The Lord God took the man and placed him in the garden of Eden to work there and take care of it. » God is in the middle of everything that is happening. Since Christians know from Isaiah 45:18 that God created the earth “to be inhabited,” we know that nothing God did was by chance or accident. Creation is something very precious that must be preserved in order to remain beautiful as it was intended (Baldwin, 2006). The problem we face as human beings is that this is completely impossible. The more we exist and interact with the world God created, the more we screw things up. Genesis 3 describes to us the result of sin on earth; this leads to pain in childbirth, the land being cursed, “painful labor” in cultivating the land, and ultimately death. And it hasn't gotten any better since that day. Humans today need to stop living carelessly and start living in a way that sustains life on earth (DeWitt and Nash, 2009). As things stand, the lives of future generations are at stake. Ken Ham wrote: “the entire creation is exhausted and worn out” (Ham, 2000).
