The novel “A Thousand Splendid Suns” tells the oppressive story of two women named Mariam and Lila who undergo enormous difficulties, firstly because they belong to the gender discriminated against. These two women are surrounded by war, domestic violence, family loss and violence. Hosseini, through the use of various images and symbolisms, brings to light the plight of women. The novel "A Thousand Splendid Suns" takes place in the context of the recent history of Afghanistan. It tells the story of two women born decades apart but opposed to each other and brought together through a series of extremely tragic events. Mariam, the illegitimate child of a rich businessman from Heart who did not have the courage to marry Nana, Mariam's mother after disgracing her. After Nana's suicide, Jalil is forced by circumstances to take refuge with Mariam. Mariam is unhappy with the limited place in her father's life. Upon her arrival in Jalil's house, she is exposed to the realities of life and realizes that her father's place and her life has completely changed since her other wives saw her as a burden and then an asset. She is discriminated against at every moment. She is further tormented for her illegitimacy because under pressure from his wives, Jalil decides to marry this 15-year-old girl, Mariam, to a widowed and brutal shoemaker 30 years her senior. Once again confronted with the vagaries of life, Mariam notices that her condition is static.
