    Humans cannot expect the world to sustain itself, it requires effort from those who choose to benefit from it. Everything is a cycle, and it is up to man to maintain the cycle and improve what the world has to offer. In “On the Genome: The Autobiography of a Species in 23 Chapters” by Matt Ridley, man and nature have a direct correlation with each other. According to Ridley, although the world supports our species and meets our needs, “…the human species is by no means the pinnacle of evolution. Evolution has no peak and there is no evolutionary process” (Ridley 195). Even though we use Earth's resources to maintain our way of life, we must think beyond ourselves and realize that this is not the Earth's only purpose. Additionally, in Ridley's article, the human ego and how it prevents us from seeing ourselves as a part of nature rather than the rulers of nature.
