The Cold War era had a positive or negative impact on decolonization. But most evidence suggests he was negatively affected. The Cold War lasted from 1949 to 1989. In each country, there were numerous examples of decolonization. Decolonization took place from 1945 to 1980, during a thirty-five-year period after World War II, when European empires in Africa, Asia, and the Pacific gradually disintegrated as former colonies became independent nations. (Map of decolonization, page 855). The Cold War rivalry between the United States and the Soviet Union provided a storyline. This scenario was encouraged by forced secessionists in Katanga. The Suez Crisis only had a major effect on decolonization because it provoked a negative reaction, forcing those few countries to withdraw. This demonstrated how little power and control they had.
