In today's society, news and entertainment can often be used synonymously, but many studies have examined the different aspects surrounding these two topics separately. One aspect studied is that of programming styles. The number of entertainment television programs has increased considerably, but there are still more regular television programs (Keller, 1993). Once new types of media become available, those who enjoy entertainment begin to neglect the old types of media (Prior, 2005). Recently, there has been a shift from old media to new media when it comes to entertainment news (McNamara, 2011). In order to keep up with this change, news programs began to change their programming style using entertainment-based stories. Another frequently studied aspect is competition between news programs. These studies have increased due to the growth of a new competitor, the Internet (Meijer, 2007). Network news programs now compete not only with many television networks, but also with many websites (Prior, 2003). One-fifth of all stories reported on morning news programs are related to promoted entertainment, whether promoting products, films, books or music (Cleary and Adams-Bloom, 2009 ). It is quite possible that the television network industry benefits from the coverage of promoted entertainment news (Cleary and Adams-Bloom, 2009; Nguyen, 2012). Morning news programs may include these frivolous stories because viewers do not like to watch programs in the morning that contain a lot of hard-hitting information (Cleary and Adams-Bloom, 2009). The content aspect of news program reports will also be examined in the present study...
