Defendants convicted under this law are also required to pay compensation to their victims for any losses they have caused (“Citizen’s Guide,” 2015). I don't think a sentence of less than 25 years to life is justice for these victims since their childhood is taken away from them. I completely agree that to stop child trafficking it is important that people know how to recognize the signs. Trafficked children may show signs of shame or disorientation; being hungry and malnourished; experience trauma bonding and fear government officials, such as police and immigration officials (“Fact Sheet,” 2012). There are already organizations helping victims start new lives, such as: • The Living Water Center – A shelter and rehabilitation center for victims of human trafficking. It helps survivors graduate from high school and apply to college and/or jobs. • Wellspring Living – A shelter, education and therapy for minor victims.
