During this period, the English were a very religious country. King James even publishes his own interpretation of the Bible, known as the King James Version. This version of the Bible was published in 1611 and is at the center of witches' popularity (What 1). In the Bible, witches are mentioned or the verse is linked to witchcraft seventeen times (King 1). Exodus 22:18 which states “you shall not suffer a witch to live” is one of the most key verses to help describe society's view (B-71). Exodus 22:18 is their explanation for having a law that states that witchcraft is a crime punishable by death. This was also widely accepted due to the religious background of the population. The fact that it is proclaimed as a sin in the Bible re-establishes the fact that witchcraft is evil and should not be accepted. In Galatians, witchcraft is also identified as an act of the flesh. As believers, the people of England and its sub-colonies would have learned to resist that of the flesh and instead live according to the spirit, thus further justifying the vision of the witches (Bible
