Essay / Macbeth and Lady Macbeth: not partners in crime
In Macbeth, it could be argued that Lady Macbeth and Macbeth himself are partners in crime and are equal in each other's eyes, but in the eyes of the audience, Lady Macbeth is a useful tool just there to ensure that Macbeth kills Duncan and receives the kingship. In Macbeth, the fundamental theme is ambition, not only because it drives the force of Macbeth's life, but also because it is the theme that reveals Shakespeare's idea of tragedy in this play. It is ambition that causes Macbeth's disgrace and inevitable death. “I have no sting... but only / An ambition which surpasses itself”. Their lives are inevitably intertwined, but while his character continues to support Macbeth, Macbeth is too preoccupied with his own role to support her. Lady Macbeth is not Macbeth's equal in the same way that Cleopatra is Anthony's in Shakespeare's Anthony and Cleopatra. Her role is important but she is only a tool in the witches' work. Macbeth is tempted to do evil and Lady Macbeth is the key person, the only person Macbeth trusts and loves, who ensures that his goal is complete and complete. This doesn't make her his partner in crime but rather what he needs to succeed and be king. After the king's assassination, Lady Macbeth wants to support her husband, but she has no other role to play in his life than that of interpreting the image of the queen. Because of this, she is left aside and breaks down and eventually goes crazy..
