  • Essay / Pride: a virtue and not a sin - 1862

    1) Well, I believe that pride is a virtue and not a sin. Pride is a stage where an individual has high self-esteem. This individual is happy according to his own standards, values and desires. They are happy with their own characteristics and there is nothing anyone else can do to spoil that. A virtue means the excellence of pride (according to Saint Augustine). Virtue also means something right and just. Some religions are cultures of their own. Every culture wants people to follow their way of life rather than that of others. Sometimes culture itself determines the truth. Religion says that sin is a category that describes something that is wrong. I grew up in a private fundamentalist school that believes otherwise. Fundamentalism is a social construct that asserts that our norms and values are an important aspect of society. For years I believed that pride was a sin; I must have heard the expression “Pride comes before a fall” too many times. How is this possible? The story goes that I uncritically believe what they say and accept that pride is a sin. After years of attending chapels, revivals and services; I started feeling like shit. For what? I believed all humans were useless because I heard that was all I heard from friends and church services. No one there wanted to take ownership of their own problems. These individuals believed that a higher power would do everything for us. Not being able to take care of myself always has a negative effect on me. Sometimes resorting to higher wattage doesn't always get the job done. I finally had the final straw when I discovered that I had destroyed self-esteem. I no longer had any confidence or self-esteem. The last time I talked to someone at my high school, I almost lost my mind. A friend and I were...... in the middle of a paper ......e: A causal model. Political Psychology 9.1 (1988): 41-73.
