However, the majority of people would like answers and clarification to many questions: Is it morally acceptable for a jury that has no knowledge of the law decide the guilt or innocence of the accused? Is it fair for the jury to make this decision based on personal beliefs or based on little or no evidence? How can the system ensure that the juror's verdict does not reflect biased community standards? Is it ethical to place a defendant on death row if a decision is made solely on the basis of discrimination? How much sense does it make to continue this practice if it is proven not to be an effective deterrent? What will be the consequences of a complete and definitive abolition of the death penalty? The aim of this article is to analyze the history of the death penalty, political influence and ethical issues in order to establish a possible solution to the current conflict in the criminal justice system and also in society as a system.
