  • Essay / Global warming: natural or artificial? - 1152

Man-made global warming has been a topic of out-of-control controversy for many decades now. Global warming is the increase in the average surface temperature of the Earth's atmosphere. There are many theories as to why the Earth's atmosphere has undergone such a drastic change over the years. These theories have sparked much debate among scientists. According to several scientists, humans are responsible for the alarming change in Earth's atmospheric temperature. These scientists also fear that human activity will have long-term consequences on the world. Bill Nye, the scientist, is one of those scientists who believe that humans are responsible for the increase in Earth's temperature. On the other side of the debate are many skeptics who are not convinced that human activity is the cause of global warming. Marc Morano is one of those skeptics who oppose the concept of man-made global warming. He is the editor of "ClimateDepot.com" where he explains why he believes humans are not at fault. Marc Morano believes that the warming of the Earth's atmosphere is only part of the Earth's natural climate cycle and nothing more. For him, the increase in the level of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere does not affect the Earth's climate. I agree with Bill Nye, the scientist, and his theories about human activity causing global warming. Decades ago, scientists didn't know whether Earth's atmosphere was cooling or warming. For many years, it was difficult to tell which direction the climate was heading. It was not until 1975 that very sophisticated computer models predicted that the temperature would rise at about 5 degrees Fahrenheit or 2.8 degrees Celsius...... middle of paper ...... al rate. Failure to do so would lead to devastating disasters in the years to come. The world as we know it will change and be different from what we know. Bill Nye and Tim Flannery have made many compelling arguments and provide evidence showing how human activity is slowly destroying our planet. Global warming is an epidemic and it is up to us, society as a whole, to end this epidemic. Works Cited Walker, Sally M. and Tim F. Flannery. We are the weather makers: the story of climate change.
