Seventeen to nineteen percent of the fifty percent of children who participate in early childhood education programs are ahead of the curve. Head Start was established in 1965 and is the most funded early childhood education in the United States. Although many argue that Jumpstart is a great tool for preparing students for school, the evidence is mixed on this subject. Head Start showed no improvement in math skills. There is little research on the impact of establishing a teacher-student relationship. It has been shown to help students who have special needs in terms of attention skills. Children who went to Head Start had more positive school readiness than those who did not go.
