Essay / Reflecting on Reading and Writing - 1176
Going to college is a big step up from high school because you're on your own. My teacher was the same as the first year. As in first year, we also had a 20-minute individual reading. I really liked this year for my English course because it was very informative and I learned a lot. We spent a lot of time analyzing the films. We used John Campbell's diagram, which was "The 17 Steps of the John Campbell Monomyth." It's about the hero's journey throughout the film and how he evolves and transforms. These were educational films selected by our teacher to teach a complex diagram by John Campbell. We analyzed movies such as Finding Nemo, Shawshank Redemption, Wreck it Ralph, Stardust and many more. As well as analyzing films we also had required readings, namely The Phantom Tollbooth, The Hobbit and some poetry. My teacher didn't like to give us boring books, but gave us fun reading while learning the required curriculum. In this course, we also discovered Plato's theory of forms. This is by far the most interesting topic we've covered because it really messes with your mind and challenges your brain.
