In this article it is worth noting that in the current essay I would like to compare Mark Twain's essay "On the decline of the art of lying. Lying” and Stephanie Ericsson’s essay “The Ways We Lie.” Twain uses satire for a practice that he finds completely reprehensible. Decay of the Art of Lying is an essay on the social norms of Mark Twain's time. This may be true and have great meaning for people in modern times. Twain challenges people to examine their actions and analyze how their actions can have a negative or positive effect on someone. In fact, Twain approaches his subject with his signature humor that entertains and critiques mainstream opinion (Moore 3). In turn, “The Ways We Lie” by Stephanie Ericsson was written in another, more scientific style. It explains why people lie and why they do it. In Ericsson's essay, she writes ten descriptions and examples of lies that we all encounter every day. Also, the essays differ in the aspect of style and thoughts.
