  • Essay / Exploring Nutritional Balance in a Vegetarian Lifestyle

However, I wasn't surprised at all, since I live in a fast food crazy American society. There still seem to be fast food restaurants on every street corner today. With the cost of living increasing every year, it seems like no one has time to cook at home as most people work longer and longer hours. As a vegetarian, I often struggle to find food in public when I'm too busy to pack myself a lunch for school or work. Because of this dilemma, I've put together a list of places that offer vegetarian options. Yet options are few and far between. The movie Super-Size Me further confirmed my frustrations with the fast food industry. Not only is there a lack of healthy choices at most restaurants, fast food joints, and schools, but none of these restaurants seem to want to offer a plant-based diet. Super-size taught me that most of the fast food industry is geared toward food addiction. Unfortunately, a plant-based diet doesn't have the same money-making potential as produce, meat, and simple carbohydrates. After watching Super-Size Me, I found myself more motivated to shift my diet to a strict vegan diet. I hope I manage to switch to a vegan diet soon.
