The final product can serve either as a finished product intended for sale to the customer, or as an intermediate good used in the production process” (Economicwatch, 2010). In short, the manufacturing industry is a diverse sector in which one can find a wide range of industries ranging from technology to various creative activities. In 2009, around one in ten companies, or 9.8% of the EU-27 non-financial business economy, was classified in the manufacturing sector. With 31 million euros of people employed and generating approximately 5.812 billion euros in turnover and 1.4 trillion euros in added value (Anonymous, 2009). According to José Manuel Barroso, the preface to “Europe 2020” states: “It’s about more jobs and better lives. This shows how Europe has the capacity to generate smart, substantial and inclusive growth, to find the path to creating new jobs and to offer a sense of direction to our societies” (Barroso, 2009). Relations with employees in the manufacturing sector: “The employment relationship is an exchange relationship: the exchange of work for remuneration. This is often called work-wage bargaining” (Willey, 2003). The employment relationship in the manufacturing sector is unsatisfactory, exploitative and unfinished and the employer attempts to demean the employee by making him work longer at minimum wage.
