My Learning Journey So Far – An Exploration of Your Learning Experiences Understanding the importance of reflection is becoming increasingly important for teachers in a changing world. In this essay, I discuss the major theorists and their theories and their impact on learning perspectives. Watson and Skinner's leaders in behavioral learning and how this aspect of reinforcement has shaped classroom learning. Piaget's cognitive learning theory is explored through the foundations of reading. Glaserfield's theory of constructivism featured prominently in peer assessments throughout my learning experience. Bundura's Social Learning TheoryPositive reinforcement and encouraging consent is a key element of learning, which I observed during my internship week. Students would receive this feedback from their teacher after completing a task correctly, this would allow them to excel in the next task with a positive attitude and enough encouragement to do it on their own. This gave students a safe and supported platform for their learning” (Mackay, 2013, pp. 360). John B. Watson and B.F. Skinner, both leaders in behavioral learning theory, believed that regularly checking student work and providing feedback as well as encouragement is a form of positive teaching and learning that can improving student performance (Nagel 2013, pp. 80) briefly addressed this part of the theory. “Feedback plays a crucial role in effective student learning and may in fact be the most important contributor to learning” (Ferguson, 2013, pp. 443). I found the element of feedback and encouragement to play an important role in learning, not only my own, but also helping others. Even though it might have just been a few words of encouragement or reinforcement, I just noticed ... middle of paper ... and towards the end of my learning journey, it was almost like a muscle memory. I find myself being a better learner when I have a physical person in front of me doing the action. As I reflected on my learning journey, I applied theoretical perspectives to practice and shaped my own learning practices. Behavioral learning theory was a key practice in my learning journey as it created a positive learning environment. Along with cognitive theory, this reinforced my own belief in the need for memory-based learning. Peer assessments and peer learning have really shaped my own journey and created new discussions. Observing actions and learning them through other people was a learning experience that I found most beneficial. In conclusion, the importance of reflection in teaching practices is extremely important, especially in a changing world..
