    We live in a generation where news can travel across America in an instant. This is done through television, radio, newspapers, magazines and the Internet, or in other words, the media. However, not everything we see and hear is entirely true. Knowing that people across the country will be influenced, people manipulate the media in order to persuade the public to have the same point of view as them. The manipulation of the media in America is similar to the manipulation of the media by the Ministry of Truth in 1984 by George Orwell. The media is often used to describe people with malicious words, in order to make them seem bad. For example, during Two Minute Hate, Emmanuel Goldstein is presented to the Party as “the primordial traitor”. (14) The Party wants Goldstein to be hated by everyone, which is why the media is used to make him look bad. Similarly, Edward Snowden is a whistleblower, but in news reports he is instead referred to as a traitor.
