My mother raised my brother and I to never give up. In fact, giving up was never considered an option in any situation. There have been times when others have told me to give up, I just give them a perplexed look and move on. In life, when things get difficult, we must not give up, we must allow difficult times and events to better shape us as individuals. When we were kids, my brother and I were always told to finish what we started. Intentionally, this instilled the idea that we were in a family that was not a family of quits, which is still true to this day. There have been times when I have doubted the meaning of this statement: “don’t give up; finish what you started.” There were times when it seemed like commonplace old advice.
