  • Essay / The Importance of Passion in Social Work - 1396

I tend to want to do whatever I can for someone else. Although warmth and caring are positive character qualities, I have learned that creating a work-life balance and taking time for yourself is beneficial. Finding a balance decreases the risk of burnout and helps social workers maintain active engagement with their consumers (Corey & Corey, 2011). In my Introduction to Social Work Practice course, I enjoyed applying my knowledge to role-playing situations and simulated case studies. I learned about various theories of practice such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Solution Focused Brief Therapy. As I progress through my courses, I plan to expand my knowledge of how to apply the textbook material in the field. I hope these practice situations will continually challenge me to grow, as I know not every situation on the field will be easy to handle. Nevertheless, I am ready to take on any challenge to be part of a profession that I deeply admire and to have the chance to help others in all areas.
