Andrea BeyerMrs. TaylorPreAP English II April 8, 2014The Benefits of HuntingOur ancestors had only one way to survive when electricity, plumbing, and agriculture were unavailable: hunting. Killing animals for their skin, feathers, bones and meat was the only possible way. Men spent days in the wild tracking down beings that could provide for their families for days on end. The practice is still alive today and has even gained popularity where competitions for hunters are held. Although they may travel short distances to purchase meat, hunters will travel hours and wait even longer to experience the exhilaration of the hunt. Lately, some people view any type of hunting as inhumane and unnecessary; however, hunting is part of history and benefits America ecologically, societally, and economically. Hunting is a very diverse sport that almost everyone can participate in. There are two main ways to hunt: firearms and bowhunting. The two main methods can be divided into subcategories. Using firearms to hunt is the most popular method of hunting in America. Firearms are normally divided into three different seasons, including seasons for shotguns, rifles, and handguns. Shotguns are used at close range and have pellets enclosed in a shell. The pellets spread out in a cone shape when the gun is fired and cover a large area. They are used to hunt deer, turkey and other birds. The guns use a real bullet and can shoot from miles away. They have a big "kick", or recoil after the weapon is fired. Hunters use rifles when hunting large animals such as deer, moose, and safari-type animals. Handguns are small, shorter barreled weapons. They are often equipped with glasses to provide better shooting accuracy. Small animals like rabbits in middle of paper ......ed to buy more bullets, gun polish or arrowheads. This will still keep big companies like Remington alive and create jobs for people. Hunting is economically profitable because it will always require goods and services. With all the benefits of hunting, it's hard to understand why anyone would object to it. Hunting has been a part of life for many years. It was a means of survival for our ancestors. The act of hunting allows us to humanely control wildlife populations and clean up the environment. Hunting improves people's overall well-being by providing healthy nutrition and exercise. It teaches everyone the meaning of patience and sportsmanship. The money spent by hunters throughout the year is never subject to change because it is a consistent activity. Hunting is based in history and helps America's environment, society and economy..
