Essay / Theoretical suicide and truth in "All About Suicide" by...
"Suicide, what a terrible concept. There are two types of suicide: physical and theoretical. Physical suicide is the most common type of suicide heard. This involves the person killing themselves physically. On the other hand, theoretical suicide occurs when the person does something that will, in turn, get them killed. For example, in Luisa's "All About Suicide." Valenzuela, Ismael, a man who works in a minister's office, murders the minister, a senior official was forced to remain silent by the government, that's why he lashes out by killing the minister so that he can reveal the truth of the case, Ismael technically "suicides" himself because he knows that the government will eventually find him and execute him. The theme of this story is that often the truth is evil. interpreted or is hidden from the public, measures must be taken to make it known to the people. Valenzuela reveals this theme through flashbacks, pronoun use, and imagery. To begin with, the theme of truth is introduced through flashbacks throughout the story. For example, when the author declares: “No, Ishmael in the ministry without being able to say what he knew, obliged to remain silent. Ismael at the bar with the glass (his third) in his hand and the irrevocable decision: better death” (Valenzuela, 6 years old), this clearly shows that the government is up to no good. Ismael isn't too happy about it, considering he's in a bar drinking. When someone, like Ishmael, is forced to remain silent, he may take drastic measures in order to reveal the truth. In Ismael's case, his drastic measure is to kill the minister. Additionally, when the narrator says "better... middle of paper ... the theme of All About Suicide was that the truth is often misinterpreted or is hidden from the public. In order to reveal the truth, steps must be taken to make it known to the people. Ishmael killed the minister in order to make the truth known to the people. In some cases this would be a bad choice, but in Ismael's case, murder was the only option. Valenzuela reveals this theme through flashbacks, pronoun use, and imagery. Through this theme, the reader can learn to be more assertive and aggressive when attempting to expose the truth. For example, they could launch a demonstration, a website, or even a political campaign, to make the truth known to the public. The public has the right to know what is happening in their governments, and even if some countries try to contain the truth, there will always be "freedom fighters" like Ismael to ensure the truth is heard.."
