Essay / The Future of Atlanta - 661
Atlanta, the capital of Georgia, is the most populous metropolitan area in the United States. It ranks ninth among the ten largest metropolitan areas. Atlanta's booming economy has been home to many industries and businesses. Major universities like Georgia State University and the Georgia Institute of Technology are located in the heart of this city. But recently, Atlanta has faced major challenges regarding transportation management, public health, lack of walkable streets, absence of green spaces, pollution and overcrowding. The city's biggest problem is traffic congestion and urban sprawl. When I look at these different issues, I find Atlanta to be less desirable to live in. But when I look at the positive sides of Atlanta, people would love to live here. It is an economically developed and prosperous city. In fact, Atlanta has been declared Alpha or World City because economically it ranks 15th among cities in the world and sixth in the United States. There are many attractions in Atlanta and it is the headquarters of the giant Coca Cola Co. In order to make Atlanta a better city to live in, changes and positive steps must be taken by local governments and states to bring about changes in the near future. Speaking of the changes that Atlanta is going to experience over the next 50 years, I think there will be a lot of changes. I see a significant need to improve people's lifestyles and move towards providing ample public transportation to deal with traffic problems. The mentality of the majority of people is that public transport is generally reserved for the uneducated and poor. This concept of people needs to be changed to improve means of transportation and eliminate traffic hassles...... middle of paper ...... effective. As Atlanta is already a most populated city, there is no doubt that there will be more overpopulation issues in the future. The problem of urban sprawl will be difficult to solve. There will be less empty land and space to build new homes, workplaces, shopping centers and leisure centers. The government will attempt to reduce or limit the population size in urban areas and focus on decentralizing Atlanta's cities. I think the government will encourage the construction of multi-family homes and condominiums. Many tax incentives will be offered by the government to housebuilders and businesses to use old land, and fees and penalties will be charged to those who attempted to use new, vacant or agricultural land. I think the changes mentioned above will make a big difference. with in 50 years. It will make Atlanta bigger and a better place to live.
