  • Essay / 'The Seduction' - 1551

“The Seduction” In this assignment, I will analyze “The Seduction” by Eileen McAuley. It's about a girl who was seduced by a boy/man. It all started at a party where she met him, one thing led to another. It's been three months now that she's been reflecting on how she ruined her life. “So she cried saying she missed all the innocence around her.” This is a quote showing her looking and thinking about what she missed. But now she must start a new life as a young mother without a father for the child to surround and care for her. Being set in a dark, lifeless place called “Birkenhead Docks”, to me that means he thought it was a perfect location. place as no one was there to see what is happening, if something happens, for example if he attacks her and she goes to the police, there are no witnesses to this attack. 'He sat in the darkness' darkness brings bad things. Because you can't see very well, you're unsure of everything around you. My own opinion is: yes, I understand that he wants privacy but also no, because he knows she won't see what he does to her. 'He spat in the river' the water nearby is impure. This shows that they are not in a wealthy area. As the bridge is located on the water's edge, it is also away from traffic and buildings. I quote “far beyond the silver flow of traffic through the city, far from the blind windows of the towers”. The innocent girl puts her life in danger… “He handed her the vodka and she spilled it like water” being with vodka, if I were in her place you wouldn't know what to do. You can't refuse, that would be rude. How I can imagine his feelings and his beating heart. She trembles with nervousness. 'She laughed, drunk and nervous' she already drank too much, you can tell by her laugh....... middle of paper......shame on this boy/man who did this to her . You felt annoyed at both of them as he pulled her into that look, but the girl let him. No matter how much she drank, she should have known what to do, instead of accepting it. “She sobbed in the cool, closed darkness of her room.” I myself feel happy right now because she is learning what a BIG mistake it was. I feel sorry for this girl as she thinks back to when she used to go to Blackpool and misses her. You think about how much fun she must have had with her friends on all the rides, but now that's all in the past since she's pregnant. Overall, I found this poem upsetting because it can happen to anyone if you're not careful. If I were in this situation, I wouldn't know what to do. But what would you do?Eileen McAuley tries to teach readers to be vigilant at all times, because this kind of incident could happen to any of you, readers..
