  • Essay / Creation Of The Hood Essay - 842

Boyz n' the Hood demonstrates high levels of urban consciousness through Ricky's aspirations, Tre's desire to leave, and Doughboy's despondent outlook on life and death. It seems like everyone in the movie, including the gang members, wants to leave the neighborhood. When Ricky receives a visit from a college recruiter, Doughboy's friends sit on the porch, asking the recruiter about college and repeatedly asking for scholarships. The film shows everyone desperately looking for an opportunity to escape the neighborhood. Very few do. Ricky, who is his mother's pride, joy and meal ticket, meets an untimely death. His mother is shown crying hysterically over his corpse, as not only did she lose her young son, but she also lost her only opportunity to leave the country.
