Beginning in 1948, in the midst of the Arab-Israeli War, the Arab League's initiation of the boycott of Israel was a coherent effort by Arab League member states, the intention of which was to isolate Israel financially and economically. (Perez). The League effortlessly ventured into preventing Arab states and deterring non-Arabs from providing support to Israel or increasing Israel's economic stability. The boycott was also intended to deter Jewish immigration to the region (Consequences of the War). These immigrants brought with them a cultural heritage and Jewish traditions very different from those that existed in Israel at the time. This Western-oriented culture demanded recognition of its morals and values, causing a huge conflict that brought misfortune to the newcomers to the state. Immigration has had a negative effect on traditional community aspects and interpersonal relationships. The original, understood values that had provided the infrastructure for community consensus have been significantly weakened. Family roles were destroyed and past experience provided no representation of current needs and desires. Cooperative activity has become very difficult. Old-fashioned leadership that relied on traditional frameworks of society has also been declared void in the new situations that have seceded large amounts of immigration (Home).B.
