Essay / Argumentative Essay on Decriminalization of Marijuana
The marijuana business in America is beginning to grow in various states of the United States. According to the United States government, cannabis should not be in the possession of any citizen without medical consent. However, the government has announced that if a state wishes to decriminalize this plant for recreational purposes, it can do so. For what? Well, it's a question that's spreading across America. The images I have chosen to discuss in my essay address this specific topic and provide different perspectives on the issue. These topics being: using weed for the wrong reasons, a lack of presidential involvement, lack of knowledge about the drug and the hope that it will lead to an economic comeback. After rhetorically analyzing these cartoons, we see that all of them introduce and discuss the legalization of marijuana. First, Royston Robeson's cartoon "Smoking Joint Grandma" features two characters; an elderly woman and her son who appears to be forty years old. The man appears to be visiting his mother at her home. With his hands crossed, he seems shocked to see his mother with a hat and a joint between her fingers. The image quotes “Mother, are you sure your marijuana use is purely medical? » By combining the image and the words, as readers we are able to understand what the author's purpose in the image is. Robeson questions whether marijuana, if legal, will really be used properly. I chose this particular image to showcase methods of using cannabis if it became legal. While I am not an expert on the marijuana epidemic, I have come across many reasons why many choose to use this plant. In my opinion, one of the biggest contributors to the problem is our generation's desire to film...... middle of paper ......ion, all three cartoons address the marijuana problem in America and the reasons why the expansion of marijuana the drug is circulating. Royston Robestons, Cartoon 'Smoking Joint Grandma' Showcases Methods in Which Drugs Will Be Used If Marijuana Legalization Passes, Henry M. Manning 'Marijuana Politics' Mocks President Obama's Involvement on the subject, declaring that the drug boom is his fault. , John Cole's "Beating" showcases people's misunderstanding of the dangers of weed and Gene Johnson's commercial about a solution to the economic debt we have in our country. There is no doubt that this drug has become so controversial and its spread is incredible. Ultimately, as long as consumers demand it, the drug will live on and whether or not someone chooses to use marijuana, it is a personal choice and they have every right to do so..
