Even though times may be difficult, heroes are brave and do what they must. For example, in the article “9-year-old Girl Scout Saves Mother's Life After Car Accident,” Melina Lakey saved her mother when their car crashed. She and her father had gotten out of the car, but her mother was trapped by the airbags. Lakey says "my dad unbuckled her and I lowered the airbags so she could get out." Even though Lakey was probably in shock after suffering a serious accident just seconds before, she took matters into her own hands in order to save her mother. Melina showed great courage in saving her mother from the car and was later honored by the Girl Scouts. Throughout history, there have been great examples of courageous heroes like Frederick Douglass. In The Tale of Frederick Douglass, he states: “I felt like a slave, and the thought of talking to white people weighed me down. » (SB 71) While Douglass was afraid to speak in front of white people, he showed courage when speaking about the challenges his brothers faced at the time.
