''The Irish Constitution protects the fundamental rights of Irish citizens and has served the country well''I agree with the statement that 'the Irish Constitution protects the fundamental rights of Irish citizens. Irish citizens and served the country well.” There are many reasons why I agree with the above statement, including some important fundamental rights, the "common good" rule, allowing citizens to vote in referendums, and limiting certain rights. I believe that these aspects of the constitution have served the country well and I will prove this in the following essay. The Irish Constitution (Bunreacht Na hEireann) is one of the oldest constitutions in Europe. It was adopted by referendum on July 1, 1937 and came into force on December 29, 1937. The constitution sets basic rules for how political power can or must be exercised and what governments can or cannot TO DO. It also sets out the rights of citizens of a country. These rights are called fundamental rights. The Irish Constitution understands and recognizes that people living in Ireland have certain rights. Fundamental rights are natural human rights approved and protected by the Constitution. These constitutionally guaranteed rights ensure that all individuals living in Ireland are equal before the law and share all the same rights. Some of the key fundamental rights protected by the Constitution include: Equality before the law ensures that all citizens are treated equally before the law. An individual's human characteristics or ethnic, racial, social or religious origin cannot lead to inferior or superior treatment of the individual by the law. This fundamental right has served the country well...... middle of document...... I agree with the statement that "The Irish constitution protects the fundamental rights of Irish citizens and has served the country well "For the reasons it gives freedom to Irish citizens, the constitution does what is best for the greatest majority of the population, it allows Irish citizens to have a say in changes in Ireland by voting once they turn 18 and because it limits the rights of Irish citizens. Irish citizens for the greater good of the people.References:1. http://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/government_in_ireland/irish_constitution_1/constitution_fundamental_rights.html2. http://www.supremecourt.ie/supremecourt/sclibrary3.nsf/pagecurrent/D5F78352A387D74480257315005A419E?opendocument&l=en3. http://www.taoiseach.gov.ie/eng/Historical_Information/The_Constitution/Constitution_of_Ireland_-_Bunreacht_na_h%C3%89ireann.html
