  • Essay / Broken Education - 1391

Small, Effective Fixes for a Broken Education SystemIn my quest to find a school for my children, I was disappointed by the options available to me. Since my children and I are a low-income family, we also have limited housing options where there are better schools. I decided to give the local schools the benefit of the doubt and enroll my two children, Mikkayla and Pharoah. During my school years, I took notes on the things I saw and learned about schools and my neighborhood. My goals are to establish ways to improve the school system and help bring about change in the school district. To successfully communicate my findings and objectives, I have divided my article into three sections, with two sections having a subsection. The first section will explain the Oklahoma City Public Schools grading system. I will also take two schools and explain some factors that contribute to the grades each school receives. My second part will present research on ways to help improve our education system. The subsection would focus on ways to finance such improvements. I will then close my article with my proposal to increase parental involvement in schools. The subsection would focus on ways to further involve the school district. Before I can explain my research, I will begin by reviewing the experience I had with each of my two children's schools and what piqued my interest in choosing this research topic. My children are Mikkayla and Pharoah. Both started their studies with Headstart. This program is offered to low-income families and funded by the state. Mikkayla and Pharoah have greatly benefited from this program. Classes were smaller and teachers were able to teach and children...... middle of paper ......y should still be involved in the school system. Community involvement as a key factor. Our community is where we live, work and play. Improving our community and helping each other is equally important. Investing money in the community and sponsoring events to bring the community together is key. When everyone feels welcomed, they are more likely to care more and become more involved. Community organizations can be formed to contribute to this effort. I discovered that we need to take time and care for our children. They are the ones who will take care of us. Parents becoming more involved in their children's lives, communities working collaboratively with schools, better technology, a better mix of teaching materials and legislation that stops the reduction in education funding are key ways to provide the support our children need to succeed in school..
