Technology has allowed them to possess superior customer service and quality unmatched by any company. No company was able to ensure long-term delivery of packages with the speed and accuracy that Federal Catégorique did. Although federal companies today remain ahead of their competitors, their advantages over alternative companies in the commercial field are diminishing. FedEx's modeling capability gave them a competitive advantage as they applied new strategies and technologies. They currently have a brilliant hub with many regional hubs and packet area units managed and tracked by a system called COSMOS. this method allowed users to know where their packages were at all times and was later integrated for use on the Internet, allowing users to track packages across the web. Today, UPS also allows customers to track their packages on the web and has improved its customer service. I guess they need to develop a mainframe almost similar to FedEx's to diminish FedEx's competitive advantage. US Mail, which offers lower rates, has also exaggerated its customer service and quality. FedEx is expected to notice new technological advancements to outpace the competition in the package delivery industry. However, expanding into completely different sectors seems to be one of the company's strategic directions. This direction is driven by increased competition in their current business.
